Los Angeles County holds more industrial electrical infrastructure than any other county in California, and a great deal of it is old. Service equipment installed decades ago, expanded piecemeal, and documented inconsistently is the normal condition rather than the exception — which is exactly the condition where an arc flash study earns its cost, and where the data collection matters more than the software.

Our engineers have served as lead electrical engineer on a comprehensive arc flash study across 13 sites for the Los Angeles Sanitation District at the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant, covering site visits, data collection, system modeling, and label installation. They have also delivered NFPA 70E arc flash and electrical safety training at LAX, including hands-on lockout/tagout instruction.

Multi-site programs
Facilities groups running twenty sites have a different problem than a single plant does: the studies drift out of sync, each one gets done by whoever was available, and the labels end up in three different formats. Our engineers have run a 94-facility arc flash program across California with panel counts from 20 to 300 per site, coordinated across six contractors, delivered as one consistent set of models and labels.
How out-of-area scheduling works
We are based in Visalia, roughly three hours from most of LA County. That changes how the work is sequenced rather than what it costs you. Field data collection is planned in consecutive-day blocks instead of scattered half-day visits, so the site is walked once and walked thoroughly. Travel is included in the quoted number up front. Modeling, calculations, and reporting happen from the data, so the only part requiring presence on site is the part where presence matters.
Service equipment at other than dwelling units must be field marked with the maximum available fault current and the date of the calculation — and that marking must be verified or recalculated when modifications affect it.

Three things to check before you hire anyone
Ask whether a licensed P.E. Electrical Engineer seals the final report. Ask whether every panel appears in the coordination study time current curve plots, or only the main gear. And ask who performs the field data collection — missing conductor lengths and unrecorded breaker settings go straight into the incident energy result.
We send a P.E. Electrical Engineer to collect the data, with an electrician as support to open panel covers. The engineer who has to defend the model gathers its inputs.
